The US has created a new commission- the Afghanistan War Commission act of 2021- that is formed of 16 congress members both Democratic and Republicans.
The bipartisan commission, led by Representatives Andy Kim and Peter Meijer in the House and Senator Tammy Duckworth in the Senate, would establish a non-partisan, independent commission to conduct a comprehensive examination of the War in Afghanistan and deliver actionable recommendations to ensure the United States never repeats the same mistakes.
The decision for creating the commission is after the US did not allocate money for Afghanistan for the first time in the past 21 years as Joe Biden signed the US defense budget for 2022.
Andy Kim and Peter Meijer in a statement in regards to the commission said it is imperative for the US nation to conduct a deep introspection of the presence of the United States in Afghanistan since September 11.
The statement further reads that the introspection must be comprehensive, objective, and non-partisan.
"The Commission will be comprehensive, The Commission will investigate strategic decisions, The Commission will be non-partisan, professional and independent, The Commission will provide a vital and actionable product." Reads the statement.
Earlier, Deputy Foreign Minister of Afghanistan Sher Muhammad Abbas Stanekzai had said that the US must compensate and pay for the destruction the country did during the past twenty years.
